S'Estany d'en Mas ("Cala Romantica")
Cala Romantica is located in the southeast of Mallorca. A small impression of the bay and its surroundings:
Perfect blue-green water and a gently sloping sandy bottom - perfect for swimming and splashing, even for small children.
The Bay
The small holiday resort is actually called S'Estany d'en Mas ("country house by the lake"), as there was a large manor house here before tourism. In the 1970s, however, it became known as "Cala Romantica" and this name has stuck to this day.
When it rains heavily and the torrent from the higher levels delivers additional rainwater, the lake forms again - from our terrace you can then look not only at palm trees and agaves, but also at the lake. However, it is at a safe depth below the road, so there is no need to worry about flooding.

Panorama from the very end of the bay
The sandy beach of the bay is spectacular, stretching from the shallow and pleasantly warm sea for hundreds of metres inland. In contrast to beaches such as those in Porto Cristo or Cala Millor, this area offers so much space that there is still enough beach available for games, even in high season.

The Nature Reserve
Many holidaymakers visit Mallorca to go hiking. The Tramuntana mountains naturally also offer great paths, views and conditions for this. But if you primarily want to go on a beach holiday, you don't have to miss out on hiking in Cala Romantica! Directly to the south, the Cala borders a huge nature reserve that is also easy for children to manage. The "entrance" is either via a 3m steep wall (with foot and hand holes) or via a less adventurous path behind the volleyball court.
Depending on the time of year and day, you can watch birds, goats, lizards or even turtles here or enjoy the many interesting plants and beautiful flowers (depending on the season).
If you are up for a longer hike (approx. 3-4 hours round trip), you can hike to "Pirate Bay", a very beautiful, small bay without any buildings, but it is difficult to reach from the main road.

Anyone who undertakes the 2-3 hour hike to Pirate Bay will be rewarded with a spectacular, natural stone bridge just before the destination, which rises at least 30m above the sea. The brave can walk across the structure, but this is not necessary to reach Pirate Bay.
Vicinity
There is a lot to see and do in the immediate vicinity of Cala Romantica. Here are some suggestions.
Cala Mandia
The next bay to the east is called Cala Mandía and is much more touristy than Cala Romantica. In the season there are a lot of restaurants and bars waiting to be visited. The bay is home to three fairly large hotel complexes; the beach is accordingly crowded in the high season.
Cala Anquila
If you are a good walker, you can also walk to the next bay, Cala Anguila - this rather small bay is beautiful. Directly adjacent is a fairly large residential complex (Pueblo Mediterraneo), which blends in very nicely with the landscape and does not disturb.
Down in the bay there is a bar, which is quite busy, especially in the season (mainly by the Pueblo residents), but offers a beautiful view of the sea and still charges good prices with very good quality food.
